Pambazana, located in Siavonga, Zambia

Pambazana community profile

Pambazana is one of the largest communities, consisting of 6,500 people, located in the Siavonga District in the southern province of Zambia. It is situated 13 km east of Siavonga and Tonga is the most common language spoken.

The people of Pambazana are cattle and goat herders which generates very little money. Early marriages are common due to the number of people living below the poverty line and the large majority are uneducated mainly because funds for school fees and school supplies are unavailable.

There is one health centre located 4 km outside of Pambazana however the medicines are usually in short supply as the health centre is serving such a large population. Malnutrition is rampant and the HIV/AIDS prevalence rate is high. Women and children are the main victims in this community. If help is available for the people of Pambazana hope for the future would become a reality.
