Prayer...

We believe that prayer is an essential element in caring for orphans and widows.  Do you have a heart for prayer?  Please join us in prayer each day for those we serve in WOW sponsored communities, our staff and our strategic partners overseas.


Wednesday November 30

Pray for the Visionledd/WOW staff and ask God to fill them with the knowledge of His will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.

Thursday December 1

Please pray for the WOW Christmas program that is being presented this month in churches, schools and homes.  For just $25.00 a child can go to school for one year.  They will receive a uniform, school supplies a dinner with meat and vegetables and they will have the opportunity to hear about the birth of Christ.  Pray that no child will be left behind, that people in North America will open their hearts to the needs of the children in Zambia and Malawi.

Friday December 2

Without an education, there is no way out of the life of poverty many live in now.  For less than $1.00 per day a child can have hope for a better tomorrow.  Pray for them as they pray to their Father in heaven that their dream for a better tomorrow will become a reality for them.

Saturday December 3

In Africa, Christmas is just another day.  We thank all of you that gave last year for making the birth of Christ something they can celebrate this coming year.

Sunday December 4

This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about:  His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.

Monday December 5

The Mgona Life Center has been completed and several programs have begun.  There is a preschool available to the children of Mgona. The center is equipped with teachers and teaching supplies.  Praise God that these children now have a safe place to learn and play.  Pray that many more communities will be funded for Life Centers.

Tuesday December  6

The Mgona Life Center also provides the children with a nutritious fortified meal Monday to Friday.  Pray that God would multiply this meal so that all of the orphans in the community can have at least one meal per day.

Wednesday December 7

Enoch is a double orphan who has received assistance from WOW supporters since 2008.  He has been assisted with school fees, food and clothing.  He has now completed his high school exams and is hoping to continue his education.  Pray that his hope for a higher education will become a reality.

Thursday December 8

Mgona now has a library at the Life Center.  Enoch is volunteering his time to help manage the library.  He is determined to give back to his community in any way possible and is so thankful for the help he has received through WOW donors.  Praise God for what he has done for Enoch and pray for those less fortunate.

Friday December 9

Many schools in Lilongwe (Mgona is a community outside the city of Lilongwe) have few textbooks; some have only one that is used by the teacher who dictates sections of the textbook to the class.  Pray that more textbooks will come available and time would not be wasted copying as the teacher dictates.

Saturday December 10

God, we thank you and praise you for the children’s feeding program and the library in Mgona.  We are awed by your faithfulness.

Sunday December 11

Joseph went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.  He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.  While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son.  She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.  Luke 2: 4-7

Monday December 12

The men and women of Mtandile, Malawi have reached out to the vulnerable in a beautiful way.  They have begun a free preschool program for any child whose family is struggling to find work.  With the help of WOW donors, children are being cared for in a safe environment while the parents try to find work.  Pray for the parents of the preschoolers that God would open doors and provide jobs for them.

Tuesday December 13

The Mtandile preschool program is also providing a nutritious meal through a feeding program managed by a WOW strategic partner in Malawi.  Praise God for our partners who oversee the programs.

Wednesday December 14

Each morning the children are taught through songs and games by volunteer teachers.  We are pleased to say that WOW monthly donors are providing funds to build a small shelter for the preschool on land donated by the local chief.  Currently the preschool children are meeting under two designated trees in the main community meeting area but soon they will have a place of their own.  Praise God for his provision.

Thursday December 15

Five faithful volunteer teachers work on a rotating basis from 8am to 11am Monday to Friday.  Each day they gather for praise and worship and then begin the difficult task of cooking large amounts of porridge over an open fire.  Pray that the volunteers will not grow weary in doing good, and will continue to be a blessing to the needy children.

Friday December 16

In the community of Mtandile there are 20 Home Based Care volunteers who serve 91 patients.  These volunteers are witnesses to the most horrific situations.  They are intimately involved with the lives of patients who are undergoing more pain, loneliness and heartache than any one person should have to bear.  We thank God for the workers who sacrifice their time and energy to be the hands and feet of Jesus.  Pray that God will provide for them and their families.

Saturday December 17

We praise God for encouraging men and women to get involved in serving those in their communities.  They are the real heroes.

Sunday December 18

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.  An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.  But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.  Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.  This will be a sign to you:  You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.  Luke 2: 8-12

Monday December 19 

Jacob Kalumbu was a Home Based Care patient himself.  Due to the regular visits by a HBC volunteer he is now well and working alongside those who once cared for him.  He is now head of a support group of people living with HIV/AIDS.  There are now 143 members in Mtandile who gather together for encouragement and bible study every Tuesday.  Praise God for men like Jacob who share the love of Christ with those around them.

Tuesday December 20

Sexual abuse is the most tragic form of human degradation.  Often the victims are young girls, too weak to fight back and too scared to call out for help.  Pray that God will give the women and children the strength to speak out against those who violated them.

Wednesday December 21

45 women in the community of Mtandile have undergone rape crisis counselling training with WOW’s strategic partner in Malawi.  13 victims of rape have already come forward to share their stories and are now receiving two hours of counselling twice per week.  Pray that other victims will come forward and begin to heal.

Thursday December 22

Every counselor wears a T-shirt which says “Silent No More”.  These T-shirts help victims identify counselors available to talk and help in anyway needed.  Pray that this horrific type of abuse will no longer be tolerated and that young girls will be free to walk alone through their communities without fear.

Friday December 23

The country of Zambia has the world’s fourth highest adult HIV/AIDS rate and life expectancy has dropped to 38 years, leaving the country’s children vulnerable with no one to raise them.  Pray that these statistics will change and men and women will live longer lives and children will have parents to care for them.

Saturday December 24

Praise God for WOW donors who have given so generously throughout this last year.  Children are being fed, men and women are being cared for through the Home Based Care programs, education is being provided for the children and many are coming to know Christ.  To God be the Glory for the things he has done.

Sunday December 25

So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.  When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.  But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.  The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.  Luke 2: 16-19

Monday December 26

As we move into the year 2012, please pray for the Visionledd/WOW team as we look ahead and seek God’s wisdom in where we go from here.

Tuesday December 27

Pray for our partners in Zambia and Malawi that God would direct them in the coming year.  Pray that we will be of one mind.

Wednesday December 28

As  we praise God for all that he has done in this past year let us not forget to thank Him for his direction, wisdom, love and patience with us as we seek to do what has been asked of us;  to care for the orphans and widows.

Thursday December 29

Praise God that he is a father to the fatherless, a defender of widows.  Only in God is their hope for the orphans and widows.

Friday December 30

We thank God for his faithfulness.  “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.  They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.  Lamentations 3: 22-23

Saturday December 31

To all of our donors: “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.  Numbers 6:24-26
