WOW Volunteers Giving Generously

Apr 09, 2008

There is no limit to the imagination!

WOW volunteers give in so many ways.  Duana Ogden from Sherwood Park, Alberta has helped in a huge way by designing the template for our WOW Patch Party quilts.  Here you can see the amazing quilt she created with patches decorated by ladies across Canada.  Each patch with their wide variety of designs works perfectly together to create the most beautiful quilt.  This quilt is being used in Africa as a template for quilts being made by widows in our WOW communities in Malawi.  Can you see your patch?

Last Christmas Donna Batista of Sharon, Ontario decided to raise funds for WOW Children's Christmas in a unique way.  She worked to bake and decorate hundreds of these teddy bear cookies.  Donna then sold and delivered each cookie and raised a significant amount of funds for school supplies for orphaned children in our WOW communities.  Donna included a note with her gift that said "So often we ask what great thing can we do to make a change in this world.  Most often, it seems that it's not the one awesome thing, but the hundreds of small things that mean so much."  How right she is.  Please let Donna encourage you that any and everything you do makes a real difference in the life of another.

Lydia Beach from Weyburn, Saskatchewan has sent in these adorable, huggable teddy bears created by her cousin Celea Beach.  We'll be bringing these teddy bears with us on our WOW Short Term Mission Trip in August and distributing to orphans who have never owned a toy.  Imagine their faces as they recieve these wonderful gifts.

Joan Ferguson, from Innisfil, Ontario has been tirelessly knitting all winter long and has supplied WOW with a huge number sweaters and dolls for children.  In Africa's dry season, or winter season, it can get very cold at night...down to 2 - 3 degrees Celcius and many orphans have absolutely nothing other than human bodies to help keep them warm.  These sweaters will actually help save lives on those cold winter nights, as well as give the children something clean and new to wear.

Joan has also been spreading the word about WOW and others have begun collecting funds and donating items such as soft child size blankets, women's sandals and adult size sweaters.  Excitement about WOW communities is growing and more people are getting involved every day!

Lenore Carter of North York, Ontario has been working hard on many of her own patches for the WOW Patch Party quilts and has also sent in some beautiful hand knit dolls.  Each doll has it own unique characteristics and have obviously been made with much love.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

Thank you to a huge number of other WOW volunteers who have helped in so many ways.  If you have some creative ideas on raising awareness for WOW while creating something special for orphans and widows, please let us know.  Better yet, send us your pictures and stories and we'll post it right here on our Volunteer Update Page.
